Vittle AI (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a food, drink and weight tracker with optional AI-assisted photo analysis. This policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and the choices you have. We built Vittle AI to keep your data on your device by default and to share it only when you explicitly ask us to.
The app does not collect your name, email, contacts, location, device identifiers, or advertising IDs, and does not require you to create an account.
All of the above is stored locally on your device. We do not operate servers that store your personal data. If you uninstall the app or clear its data, the locally stored information is removed from your device.
When you tap Analyze with AI, the photo(s) and/or text description for that single item are sent over a secure (HTTPS) connection to Anthropic, PBC (the provider of the Claude AI model) to estimate a title, calories and macronutrients. This happens only when you initiate it. The request is authenticated with an API key that you supply and that is stored only on your device.
Anthropic processes the request to generate a response and handles that data under its own terms and privacy policy. Please review Anthropic’s Privacy Policy. We do not send your photos or descriptions anywhere else, and we do not use them for advertising or profiling.
If you configure a sync URL (a Google Apps Script web app that you control), the app can push your entries to, and pull them from, your own Google Sheet in your own Google account. This is entirely optional and off unless you set it up. Photos are never included in this sync — only text data (dates, item names, calories, macros, water, weight, and your notes). Data sent to your Google Sheet is subject to Google’s terms and your Google account settings.
Dictation uses your device’s built-in speech-recognition service to convert speech to text. On Android this may be provided by Google or another on-device/cloud service depending on your device settings. The app itself does not record, store, or transmit audio; it only receives the recognized text, which you can review and edit before saving.
The app requires internet access for: AI analysis (Anthropic), optional Google Sheet sync (Google), loading fonts (Google Fonts), and speech recognition (your device’s provider). We do not integrate any advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs.
Because your data is stored on your device, you control its retention. Delete individual items in the app, clear the app’s data, or uninstall the app to remove it. Data you have synced to your own Google Sheet remains in your Google account until you delete it there.
Vittle AI is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Network requests use encrypted HTTPS connections. Any AI API key you enter is stored on your device. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we design the app to minimize the data that ever leaves your device.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Because your data resides on your device (and, if you enabled it, your own Google Sheet), you can exercise most of these rights directly by editing or deleting entries, clearing app data, or uninstalling. We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
